Pre-Campaign Character Questions to Ask

A character is more than their class, race, and tragic background. They're also a mix of issues we should go to for therapy, puns, and questionable decisions.

To make sure players see their characters as the complex beings they are, I ask an assortment of the questions, some serious, some a bit silly.

  • What would your tinder bio be?

  • If you dropped food on a decently clean floor, what is the longest time period it could be there before you picked it up that you'd still eat it?

  • What's a false rumor others believe about you that you wish was true?

  • How many days in a row can you wear the same underwear without washing them?

  • Is cereal soup?

  • You've finished loading groceries into your car and need to return the shopping cart but the corral is more than a row away. What do you do with your cart?

  • The love of your life is about to willingly marry your enemy. What do you do?

  • You can change the ocean into a different liquid, what do you choose?

  • What awful fashion trend could you rock?

  • What winter olympic sport would you compete in and how would you ensure you win gold?

  • What is your mating call?

  • Would you have worn a mask during the pandemic?

  • What would your boggart be?

  • Who is the true hero of LoTR?

  • In what order do you put on your shoes and socks?

  • What's your go-to karaoke song?

  • Who should be on the d&d (whatever setting you're in) version of Mount Rushmore?

  • Your life gets turned into a movie, who do you cast to play yourself?

  • You can domesticate one wild animal, what is it?

  • The person in front of you in a drive through pays for your meal, what do you do?

  • You've conquered a kingdom, what do you rename it?

  • If you had to wear a hat for the rest of your life, what hat would you pick?

  • If you were a vegetable, what would you be?
